In 1 Timothy 6:12, Paul writes: Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.
He says "lay hold on eternal life" - seize it, grasp it, understand and fully recognize and appreciate the power and uplifting strength of Jesus Christ in our lives. Still, what does it mean to fight the good fight of faith?
1 Timothy 6:17-19 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.
We aren't called to just appreciate the joy and love the Lord has for us and keep it to ourselves, but we are to communicate His love and the testimony of Jesus Christ to others so that they too can receive that joy. This really stood out to me because I have found in my life that it is sometimes easier not to say anything - to remain quiet and avoid conflict. But that is NOT what we are called to do. We are called to share the Lord's testimony, even if it is hard. We are to be speakers of the Lord's Word and witnesses of His testimony of Jesus Christ, despite persecution.
2 Timothy 4:5 But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry
May we all take Paul's words to heart, fight for the faith, and seek the crown of righteousness - which is the Lord - so that our witness may be that of Paul's.
2 Timothy 4:7-8 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
