Righteousness

Hebrews 1:8-9
But to the Son He says:

      " Your throne, O God, is forever and ever;
      A scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom.
      You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness;
      Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You
      With the oil of gladness more than Your companions."

Now this may seem elementary to most, but this scripture to me was quite profound.  So many times I have heard people say "I want that happiness," or something to that effect.  And always what they are referring to is the love of the Lord radiating from someone else.  I know that personally, that is exactly what brought me to the Lord. I saw the joy of someone else and said, "I want that."

I never really thought about specifically how we attain that joy, except that it is simply an inherent part of being a follower of Christ.  But when I read this verse and studied the words within it, I began to understand that righteousness is at the core of everything having to do with Jesus Christ.

The entire premise of God's Word is wrapped up in this word: Righteousness.  I am sure there are several other words, but for this moment in my life it is simply righteousness. Righteousness tells us HOW to live in alignment with God's will.  It is defined as rectitude: strong moral integrity in character or actions. It is morality, doing good, making correct choices, all that is RIGHT and JUST.
When we abide in this righteousness, we are rewarded with exceeding joy and gladness more than all who are in the world. This is the light that we share with others - exceeding joy! This joy is what people see and desire for themselves. It is the Lord's way of bringing people to Him. For those who have this joy, it should be the prayer that people who see and desire this joy will seek out the Lord. And when they seek out the Lord, He is blessed and rewarded by our obedience that began with righteousness.

It is my prayer to be forever abiding in this righteousness so that I may be this light to others so that they may find Christ.
